Oda Kazuma, 1881-1956
Lyrical Scenes from Matsue: Six, Lake Shinji- Kagonohana
(Matsue joshu: Roku, Shinji-ko, Kagonohana)

lithograph; the series title along the right margin, Matsue joshu, roku, signed in pencil on the bottom margin, K. Oda, 1925
6 7/8 by 8 1/2 in., 17.5 by 21.6 cm
Kazuma worked primarily as a lithographer, but he was also an ukiyo-e enthusiast, publishing two books on the subject. Although he produced six shin hanga style woodblock prints with the publisher Watanabe Shozaburo (1885-1962), the vast majority of his oeuvre was in the medium of lithography and issued in very small editions. This is a very interesting example of a lithograph by the artist that seems very much like a woodblock print.
