Hiroshi Yoshida

1876-1950

Gold Gate
(Kinmon)

brush signed in sumi ink at lower left, Yoshida, with red artist's seal Hiroshi, with artist's jizuri ('self-printed') seal on upper left margin, followed by the date, Showa jurokunen saku (Showa 16 [1941]), and title in Japanese, Kinmon, printed title in English on the bottom margin, Gold Gate, with pencil signature Hiroshi Yoshida, 1941

double oban tate-e 15 3/4 by 21 1/4 in., 40 by 54 cm

Although Yoshida does not identify the location, this appears to be the Omotemon or Niomon (Nio gate), at the entrance to the The Toshogu shrine in Nikko.
