Yoshida
Hiroshi Yoshida, 1876-1950
Europe Series: Ruins of Athens (Acropolis- Day) [pink test print]
(Oushuu: Azensu no Kaseki)

with artist's sumi ink signature, Yoshida, at lower left with red seal Hiroshi, and tame shizuri (test print) seal at upper left, followed by large red jizuri (self-printed) seal, dated below, Taisho juyonen saku (work of Taisho 14 [1925]), followed by the title, Azensu no Kaseki, 1925
oban yoko-e 11 3/8 by 15 1/2 in., 29 by 39.5 cm
In comparison with the soft beige-pinks and salmon colors of the LACMA impression and the darker purples and violets in the example illustrated in the Ogura references below, this test print explores a palette of bright pinks and purples (most strikingly the pink highlights on the temple columns) in contrast with the gradated light blue sky and pale blue middle-ground.
