This watercolor was used for the woodblock printed cover and frontispiece accompanying the novel Ima Miyuki (Now Deep Snow) by Kaneko Shunmu (b. 1871) for Bungaku Sekai (World of Literature) magazine, no. 9, published in 1891. The publisher folded the composition in half, using the right half for the cover and the left half, with the figure, for the frontispiece image.
