b. 1915-?

Maiko Powdering Her Face

embellished with white mica over pink ground; seal Roko, 1950

17 1/2 by 12 in., 44.6 by 30.6 cm

There is scant information recorded regarding the life and work of Hirayama Roko beyond that he was born in 1915 in Tokyo. Merritt and Yamada note that he was a painter and printmaker that specialized in portraits of beauties, however, his printmaking efforts appear to be limited to this single example (in excellent condition with lovely mica) which is believed to have been produced in circa 1950.
