This composition dates to very early in the artist's career while was living in Japan. While he was training in the woodblock printing process, Binnie experimented with stencil printing. He produced two color variants of this design, Gold and Blue. The numbered edition of Gold included 50 prints and is no longer available from the artist, while Blue was produced in a tiny edition of only 8 prints, most of which were dispersed shortly thereafter. This print was acquired directly from the artist's personal reserve and was illustrated in his 2007 monograph, A Dialogue with the Past.
