signed by Ikkaisai Yoshitoshi hitsu, with publisher's seal Daisada (Osada), carver's seal Hori Ushi, and combined censor and date seal Tatsu-shi, aratame (year of the dragon [1868], 4th lunar month, examined)

chuban tate-e 10 by 7 1/8 in., 25.4 by 18.2 cm

This composition depicts a tennin (Buddhist celestial) bestowing lotus petals on children. Tennin were Buddhist deities akin to western angels or fairies who were thought to live in the heavens as companions to the Buddha and the Bodhisattvas.
